In almost all drugs, all it does is lose potency. Sometimes it only loses a small amount of potency as well. Read the article below, it is very enlightening.

when some medicines get old they loose strength or don't work as well. But still only take a normal dosage

You should be fine -- just get some new ones or try to find your other ones.

medication should be thrown out by the date on the label. it loses its effectiveness after that. it won't hurt you, but it probably won't help either. our ER has a program to help people that can't pay for medical treatment. I'm sure yours does, too. or one of the hospitals in your area. we only have one in the county.

Old medication can loose its effectiveness and the chemical composition could change.

I wouldn't take any more.

How long did it take for it to become effective in the past?

Several different things can happen to medications as they expire. They can lose their effectiveness. They can change into something toxic or they can work the way they are supposed too. I would not take more. If you risk taking the appropriate dose after expiring and it does not work, you need to go see your doctor for a refill of your current med..

I would not take expired medications just because it could be toxic. I understand your dilemma though and why you took it. I empathize with you and would urge you to find a friend or pastor to talk to who can help you through your immediate need.

I am a Christian and it always helps me to go to God in prayer. I turn over all my troubles to Jesus. He tells us that we can take his yoke it is light. He will take yours. If you want to know more just PM me and I will tell you about my savior.
