I’m an 18 year old senior in high school. I’m current on 150 mg of Zoloft a day. I’ve been recieving therapy for several months, but I really haven’t improved at all. I have problems with anxiety and depression.

The Zoloft has really helped with depression, but my anxiety is still very bad (if not worse then before the medicine). I’ve had a few panic attacks since starting the medicine (one very serious one in the middle of class). I also twitch quite a bit, it could just be that I’m so cold though…

My therapist would not diagnosis me with anything because I think she said she was more of a humanist or something. However she said that in order to treat my anxiety we would probably have to get the depression under control and it is pretty much now.

So I was wondering how effective talk therapy was for helping with anxiety? I’ve always thought I had social anxiety disorder, but my therapist is reluctant to diagnosis anything.
Also what other forms of therapy may be more effective?

Description of my anxiety
Well like most highschool guys I get most anxious around girls, but for me it isn’t uncommon for me to have anxiety or panic attacks.
I usually try to flee from conversations because I never have anything to say and I’m worried for some reason. So it will usually come with faster breathing & heart beat… possibly some twitching.

When just being in public I’m told that I look very uncomfotable and even at time that I look like I’m going to pass out.

Just sitting in class I will have problems twitching (mainly hands shaking and mouth doing something similar to shivering).
yes my depression has pretty much subsidded (and only in about a months period with the first medication, everyone was telling me change it and not even to give the zoloft a chance).

I really don’t feel a need to be diagoisnised with a specific disorder, I just feel my anxiety symptoms best first social anxiety disorder for best reference as to what my problems are like and what therapy would be useful in treating it.

I’ve heard a lot about CBT for treating anxiety and I think my therapist may use some.
I don’t see where you got the impression that the therapist does not listen to me. Just because she won’t diagonis me with some medical term doesn’t really mean anything to me. It won’t change how I’m feeling or the symptoms I’m experiencing and it would not change her method.

Isn’t it better to form the therapy to the individual patient instead of just switching because of something like that?

For over a week I’ve been suffering from shortness of breath and chest tightness/pain. I have had past anxiety problems, but I’ve been on Zoloft to treat it, and haven’t had any attacks since I started it over a year ago.
I tried taking Buspirone which normally calms me down, but it only made my breathing more labored. I’ve tried to be unconcerned, but I’ve never had a constant anxiety attack and trouble breathing at all times of the day, and since I’m 3 months post-partum, I’m wondering if it might be a pulmonary embolism? I had some unexplained pain in my left calf muscle about 6 weeks after giving birth, but it went away after an hour or so, and I’ve had no issues other than the current problems.
I took a trip to the ER last night and the did a D-Dimer test and a chest X-ray, but I’m worried that it isn’t enough to completey rule out a problem? Any help would be great!
I was under the impression that a chest x-ray often misses signs of PE and a CT scan is much more effective. Should I contact the internal medicine speiclaist I was referred to tomorrow? I called my OB, but they told me to go to the ER if I was having those sypmtoms…which I’ve already done.
I’d like to not have to wait until some sort of awful symptoms show up.

I’m talking about IMMEDIATE treatment (along with over a period of time).

Thank you for your info!!!

I have severe panic attacks. Does anyone have any solutions to this or know any tricks to help this problem.
I have had them for 3 years now. I am on Zoloft, 100 mg. It doesn’t seem to be helping.

For several years now, I have been battling severe panic attacks related to social anxiety disorder/agoraphobia. It isn’t just "shyness", it’s a full-blown panic attack – sweating, chills, rapid pulse, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, hyperventilating, and the overwhelming need to get out of the situation immediately.

I am on daily Zoloft to curb the anxiety, and Xanax as-needed for panic attacks. The Zoloft works alright, the Xanax works better, but neither is 100% and I have several very stressful weeks coming up and I need some kind of remedy or trick, preferably something all-natural, to help me cope with the panic attacks.

All ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated. =)

when I was 19 I had an anxiety attack .I was prescribed xanax . I was on them for awhile but not for long. As life went bye I began having constant nausea and stomach pain. I went through every stomach pill imaginable. Nothing worked and I was in er 4 days out of a week. Finally the doctors took the right path and started treating me for anxiety and depression. After about two weeks evrything was almost great . I had no nausea or stomach pain. I am still doing ok while taking 200mg of zoloft daily. The only trouble is I still have those sudden anxiety attacks . I will be sick for two days until it passes. I have tried everything for the anxiety but nothing works. I want to try xanax again occasionally when I have these attacks but my doctor will not prescribe it . I can never sleep either due to worrying and anxiety and think that xanax might help.

Im a teenager I faint due to hyperventilation from panic attacks. I would like to stop fainting. I do not want any drugs or any ssri drugs. How ever disregarding what my general in house physician said i can’t keep going on "just dealing with it". It happens numerous times. Is there anything out there i cant take.
ps.
no beta blockers that can also be ssri drugs (ex zoloft)

I am on Zoloft. its been almost 3 months. My panic attacks are still the same and so is my anxiety. Is there something for my panic attacks and how to I talk to my doctor about it. Ive heard about Xanax? Thanks for the help.

i have gained 40 pounds taking zoloft . is there another medication i can take that wouldn’t make me gain weight and would help me with my panic disorder?

I was diagnosed with anxiety about 5 months ago and am currently taking Zoloft for it. I am a first time mom and my son is 8 months old. Following childbirth, I had eclampsia with seizures. Ever since I had these, I am TERRIFIED of having another one…which doctors say is HIGHLY unlikely! Well, since then I have had bloodwork, 2 MRI’s, CAT scan, and all kind of heart tests. I still get lightheaded at times…and my heart feels like it is beating fast and I feel like Im going to faint. I cant stand feeling like this! Do you think the lightheadedness could be due to the Zoloft? Also, there is no way that heart attack symptoms could last this long, right?

I am on zoloft and clonazepam for panic disorder,Although they help, I get bad panic attacks a week before my period and it is so uncomfortable! What can i do to lesson the panic?

I am having a lot of anxiety attacks and a couple of panic attacks. My Dr prescribed zoloft, but what do i do in the mean time, while it is getting in my system. i read about Magnesium, and B6 and B12… has anyone tried these things? What works for you? Please, I need some advice.
Also, i just had a baby four weeks ago. and i am not nursing.

I am going to my doc who wants to put me on an antidepressant.
He put me on Zoloft which I did not tolerate well at all. He likes me to put input into things, and I would like to have an idea of which antidepressant for my panic attacks would be. He of course would make the final descion, but he does ask my opinion.
Any expierences out there?

I have been taking zoloft and klonopin for anxiety for a while and I think it is no longer helping enough. I am thinking of switching to a different ssri and ativan (instead of klonopin). Any suggestions on what the best med is for generalized anxiety disorder. Thanks!
