I currently take 50 mg of Paxil daily and use Xanax as a backup, I am not a recreational drug user, but wonder if anyone has tried marijuana to ease the symptoms of panic disorder and what the results were?

they say that Luvox and Paxil are good to treat those disorders. Could it be that the Celexa company didnt spend the money to test to see if it will treat those disorders such as Paxil.

Anyway to treat severe anxiety w/o medication, I have lorezpam but I am really get sick of taking medications and the cost of medications, my script will run out soon-only have like 8 left.
Are there any other techniques to getting rid of anxiety? I used to be able to will it all away by tricking my brain into thinking everything will be okay, but it doesn’t work anymore (not since my dad died about a year ago).
PS–background info: I was on paxil for 10 yrs, starting getting BAD anxiety, hyperness, sleeplessness–so they took me off & said I had bipolar depression and associated it with me taking SSRIs –basically I am only bipolar when taking SSRIs–so I went off of it, I tried different mood stabilizers & hated them- My mind felt muddled and I STILL had anxiety attacks.
Now, I am off of all of those drugs besides lorazepam. I get the tightening in my chest, feel like I can’t breathe, feel like im suffucating, & my stomach does cartwheels many times over.
PS, i stopped going to my psychiatrist(s). I got tired of "testing" drugs and I got tired of the side effects of the drugs–and they wouldnt relieve my major issue– ANXIETY. (I tried lamictal, depakote, seroquel)—and couldnt tolerate the side effects. My brain isnt foggy anymore, so i DO feel better drug-free but I do still get anxiety!!! Help! anyone have any tricks to do—or herbs u use to calm yourself down?
Veronica, I am sorry. I have never experienced what you are talking about– "I get some weird sensations around my mouth and cheeks. It feels like a numb/tingly/weak feeling"

I do get the tingly feeling sort of through my entire body but I don’t recall it ever being by my mouth. My arms and BODY get tingly, hairs standing straight up–type-thing.

I really only had a few mini-panic attacks before my dad passed away-and now i get these major attacks often. It is miserable when it happens. I had always heard of people getting this, but I had NO clue how terrible it is.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I guess I will just have to try and find something to work for me. I do have some lorezapam left, so that will help me for awhile. But after that I just really want to learn to deal w/it on my own. I don’t want to get addicted to any medications!

Take care everyone, thanks. Veronica, hope you can figure it out. Your doctor probably knows best, Id trust her/him.

I already went through two panic attacks recently during which I had to be taken into hospital. Whenever I am experiencing those panic attacks I feel like I am going insane there is fear inside me that makes me tremble and makes my whole body cold. i hyperventilate and experience pains in some areas of my bodies, chest especially. My heart so fast that it feels like it is goign to rip a hole through my chest.

I need to know if there are any available "home made" treatments. And what is there to prevent them.. as well as what can I when I get a sudden panick attack.

I am taking Ativan and Paxil. I was taking Xanax but it does not work on me any longer.

Let me brifely describe what I think causes my panic attacks
I am in BAD finanical situation which creates lots of stress. I am working in a stressful evnironment. Recently, I am expriencing anxiety and I do not want to deal with many people and just want to be left alone.

Help, please.

Every time someone hears about my attacks, I get useless and banal "advice" on overcoming them. People with no real psychological education other than reading self help books and watching Dr. Phil. My favorite is "suck it up" and "be a man." So anyone out there with panic disorder get this often or notice this? Does it bug you? How do you cope? It’s bad enough to have an illness that has you by the throat, but to endure constant ignorance is just salt in the wound.
10 years with panic disorder (agoraphobia on and off) Have been on Paxil, Lexapro, Celexa, Effexor, Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, etc.

Tested for bi-polar and manic depression..hade neither, but was given Depikote "just in case" and it reacted badly.

8 years for constant therapy, psychotherapy, CBT, meditation and relaxation techniques, feedback related techniques and very little progress with most. CBT is still current and on going.

I’m almost 23, I’m in college and let’s face it, I like going out and having some drinks with friends like many people my age do. I also have a mild case of generalized anxiety which is genetic in my family. I take clonazepam sometimes to treat anxiety attacks which have gotten less frequent over time. I’ve been told that drugs like paxil and buspar may help but I know you’re not supposed to drink alcohol when you’re on them, but I don’t want my social life to stop either. I don’t consider myself an alcoholic or anything, I usually just drink on weekends or at sporting events so I can go days without drinking or whatever, but I don’t want to have to cut it out all together. Any advice?

By the way, for what it’s worth, I only drink beer, I don’t drink liquor or wine or anything else.

I have heard everything from you are born with it to because you have sinned too much to its from processed foods to its from the hormones in the milk! Why is it so common! If you are going to tell me that it isnt a real disorder, I will beg to differ with you! If you have some helpful info, then I would be greatly appreciative. Has anyone here suffered extreme dibilitating panic, been on meds, and successing found a way to come off? I’m sorry there are sooo many unanswered Q’s here.
Nicole,
Yes I am suffering from panic attacks. Its been close to 4 yrs since the first debilitating one, and they still sneak up quite often. I take 12.5 mg Paxil daily, and am considering Xanax for those debilitating attacks. I believe that my attacks surfaced due to the amount of stress I was under. I was 20 y/o, married w/ a stepson, and just gave birth to my second son, (3 sons total- at that time). My baby was very ill, and was deaf. We were getting ready for him to have cranial surgery. I was very weak from a traumatic birth,(he was born in the car during a thunder storm), and was having to travel 300 miles to the childrens hospital frequently. I lost my pregnancy weight in about 3 weeks. Then the attacks hit me hard. It was a nightmare! I deal with them very well now, but the trembling is unbearable! Thank all of you who have taken the time to leave an answer.

I’m 25. I’ve been diagnosed with anxiety disorder. I feel shortness of breath, dizzy, anybody gets these symptoms? It’s weird because I don’t know what causes it. They gave me Lorazepam now Paxil 20mg I try not to take it but now I hear it makes you gain weight? How does it go away? I want to be normal again! Please help me with info. Thx.

I was on paxil for 2 years and got off of it. I feel fine and everything..even happier. But I am back to having panic attacks! I don’t want to rely on meds!!! Any suggestions?

I have anxiety and panic attack disorder. I don’t take any meds for it after 2 horrific experiences with prescription anxiety meds. Anway, I had to go to the hospital today for a minor injury and felt fine aside the simmering panic inside me. However, when my temp was taken, I was at 99.9. I’ve been home for a few hours and my temperature is much lower than the norm now, although I still feel like I have the low grade fever.

Do you think this all anxiety caused? I checked the net and couldn’t find anything about fever and anxiety attacks. Thanks for the input.
I’ve been on Effexor (worst ever with withdrawal), lexapro (nasty side effects) and paxil (2nd worse) that have all scared me from meds. Period. Both effexor and paxil plateaed at high doses and doc took me off them slowly, which resulted in being bedridden and unemployed. I’m not going there again!
