I just started Klonopin on Wednesday and Saturday my mom made me stop taking it because she said I was acting blurred and sleepy! And I was sleepy, but the doctor said after two weeks he’d knock me down to .5 mg, if I still had these side effects. Anyway to convince my mom to let me back on them?
I was having a panic attack/anxiety attack/whatever and I couldn’t breathe and I kept crying and I just ran out of my klonopin (but even that isn’t meant to treat ATTACKS, it’s got a longer half life) and i knew i had some Librium around so I took that. It’s 10 mg. I just took it about 2 minutes ago so I’m not feeling anything.
Since the medication is about 7 years old, has it "gone bad"? Should I take more?
I have a few other meds around but I can’t remember what they are.
And please, do not suggest that I go to the emergency room or call an ambulance unless you are ready to pay the bills for it.
The crying had stopped at the time I took the medication but I still had a lot of trouble breathing.
Within about 20 minutes all the symptoms completely disappeared. Could be placebo effect or just natural ending of the episode, who knows. I think it was probably the librium though.
I am dizzy and tired now though, but more relaxed. I may even be able to sleep.
Thanks for those who took me seriously.
My hubby is 45 yrs old and has been suffering from panic attacks. It started in late Oct with chest cold, congestion, cough which he was treated with antibotics and Medrol Dose pack. He continued to feel tightness in his chest and the cough lingered for several weeks. The chest tightness lingered even longer. Due to the fact that his father and grandfather both had heart attacks at the age of 50 and died my hubby is very scared. My hubby has had several tests done and there is nothing phyically wrong with him. He has had normal EKGs, normal stress tests and normal blood tests. We have been to the Emergency Room about 6 times since Oct due to his chest pains. He was put on Xanax which sometimes calms him down. During his last visit to the ER he was given Ativan which seems to help him more than the Xanax. Yesterday he went back to his regular doctor and was given Cymbalta and Klonopin. He took 60 mgs of Cymbalta yesterday about noon and took 1/2 pill of 0.5 mg of Klonolin about 3PM. He said the Klonopin made him feel weird and really didn’t calm him down like the Ativan does. Last night he seemed calmer but did not sleep all night. This morning he woke up with dry heaves, nausea and feeling really weird like dopey. He did start therapy last Tuesday and will go again next Tuesday. His doctor is going to do another stress test and 2D echo as well for peace of mind. I know Cymbalta takes up to two weeks before it starts to work but does it work. Could it be causing the insomnia, nausea? Did the Klonopin cause him to feel dopey this many hours later? He doesn’t want to get addicted to any of these meds and he was told to take them as needed except for the Cymbalta. Can anyone give any insight on Cymbalta, Ativan and Klonopin?
My Dr. has been treating me for anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc.,for almost a year.He has tried many different kinds of meds, but nothing is working.Lately my main problem has been panic attacks.Frequent, sometimes violent, and getting worse.Right now I’m on klonopin, and he just gave me samples of zyprexa yesterday.Anyway,he also suggested an in patient mental facility for treatment.I was wondering if anyone has been to one of these, and what to expect.
I withdrew two years ago and it was nightmare. After the birth of my child my panic came back.
I feel people judge me but it works for me i was on it for fourteen years prior. The withdrwal took two months. After my son i had postpartum and anxiety so now i take .1mg of klonopin at night and prozac in the day and i feel hundred percent better. I just feel as if i failed that i needed the klonopin again to deal with my anxiety.
My original doctor passed away and i am seeing his replacement and he tells me how awful xanax is to your body. I have been on Xanax for over 4 years and i am worried about having panic attacks or serious withdrawal. Does Klonopin work almost the same? I know it is longer acting and hopefully it will work and i can eventually get off of all medication. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Every time someone hears about my attacks, I get useless and banal "advice" on overcoming them. People with no real psychological education other than reading self help books and watching Dr. Phil. My favorite is "suck it up" and "be a man." So anyone out there with panic disorder get this often or notice this? Does it bug you? How do you cope? It’s bad enough to have an illness that has you by the throat, but to endure constant ignorance is just salt in the wound.
10 years with panic disorder (agoraphobia on and off) Have been on Paxil, Lexapro, Celexa, Effexor, Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, etc.
Tested for bi-polar and manic depression..hade neither, but was given Depikote "just in case" and it reacted badly.
8 years for constant therapy, psychotherapy, CBT, meditation and relaxation techniques, feedback related techniques and very little progress with most. CBT is still current and on going.
I was diagnosed with panic attacks in 2000. I was put on Klonopin and have been on it ever since. However, I lost my health insurance and therefore cannot get a new prescription from a doctor. I finally found a program that helps people with no insurance but have to wait until April for my appointment because they are so booked.
I ran out of my klonopin about 3 or 4 weeks ago and have been doing as much as I can to avoid attacks but sometimes it’s inevitable.
I have been trying to drink chamomile tea. I have also tried my hardest to stay away from caffeine but am having a hard time giving it up.
Do you have any other remedies that I could use when I feel an attack coming on?
I hate anxiety!!! Why does it have to exist??
I also hate it when people tell me to "just calm down" or "stop worrying, your’e fine" That doesn’t help me much, ya know?
Thanks for all the good remedies! I will definitely be trying those for next time
As for the prenegran (can’t spell it either, lol) i know what you mean….i’ve taken it before and it definitely helps. mostly because when i’m having an attack i also get very nauseated
I’ve suffered from panic/anxiety attacks for about a year now. They are brought on by aches and pain, or stress at work (I’m a retail manager). Those who have suffered from attacks before understand that even though you know you are fine, your body tells you something different and it’s so hard to calm down. I want some natural alternatives, rather than taking medication. I don’t have money to go to a pyschologist, so I’m searching for other methods of keeping calm. Any suggestions/sources, especially from those who have personal experience, would be great. I need ideas to prevent them, and ideas to treat them when I have them. Thanks for your help. Serious answers only please.
BTW- I was on lexapro for 6+ months and took klonopin when needed, but I don’t want to go that route again. I don’t want to be on medication
Im 33 years old and i have been battling anxiety/panic my whole life. I used to take Klonopin for many years. I stop taking them. Awful withdrawl. Anyway its been a year with out zero meds and now after i have had my son i have had two full panic attacks . My doc put me on klonopin just to get me to a calmer place . Anyway im just frightned this disorder will never go away.
I have been taking zoloft and klonopin for anxiety for a while and I think it is no longer helping enough. I am thinking of switching to a different ssri and ativan (instead of klonopin). Any suggestions on what the best med is for generalized anxiety disorder. Thanks!
