Should I hold out for a job that I may enjoy or should I do any job and deal with the depression?
I’m trying to overcome an anxiety/depression issue that is triggered when I take on a job that provides no stimulation/enjoyment. Sometimes I quit after a day.
The thing I can’t get used to is spending so much of my life doing something I don’t want to do – 8 hours a day 5 days a week is a huge chunk of life to dispose of.
I think part of the problem is that I don’t have any career oriented goals.
So, do I do it and deal with it or do I hold out for something that might be ok?

This is a dilemma that requires a serious approach and some real planning. You correctly point out that one spends a lot of one’s life at work. I wholeheartedly believe your job should be something you enjoy doing. But do you even know what that job would be?
Yes, you should have a job you enjoy. But most of us can’t sit around for an indefinite period of time waiting for that job to materialize. And it sounds like that’s what you’re doing. What job (or what KIND of job) are you looking for? Are you working now? Or are you sitting at home waiting for the ideal job to fall into your lap?
It’s time to sit down and take a written inventory of your personal and professional strengths and weaknesses. Take a legal pad and draw a line down the center of the page. At the top of the left column write STRENGTHS. At the top of the right column write WEAKNESSES. Then make an honest list in each column. When you’re done, think about what you can do to enhance the strengths and change or diminish the weaknesses. Make a sheet like this for PERSONAL and another list for PROFESSIONAL or OCCUPATIONAL.
Then make a list of goals for yourself. Don’t think in terms of what you want TODAY. Think in terms of what you want for yourself 3 years or 5 years from now. Write down at least 3 goals. Within each goal, make a list of objectives. These are the steps you have to take to reach your goals. It’s important to write all these things down so you can refer to them every day, review them, make notes on your progress. Your first objective should be a trip to your county unemployment office to talk with a job counselor there.
You can continue to blame anxiety and depression for your lack of action, but you and I both know it’s just an excuse. You have to take charge of your life and reach deep inside yourself for the motivation you need to get started. Decide what you want to do and then go for it.
Sitting around and waiting for your dream job to fall out of the sky is just wishful thinking and wasted time. Do what you love and love what you do, but get started today.
I’d hold out for a job that you want 2 do.
Depression is very common and it’s a mental illness that can be treated.
It may also help you if you get out more like say do some sports and join some clubs and be around people more.
You need to force yourself to break away from being on your own as this only compounds the matter till it gets worse because you become more withdrawn that way.
You’ll need to attend a depression clinic for the right help in your area. Counseling is an ongoing option you can’t do without.
Hold out for a job u enjoy u will never be happy in life if ur not happy at work
u should start applying 4 other fun jobs u like but dont quit til u have another lined up. its no fun being broke. hahaha
you need to work out what you would enjoy doing in your life. It is pointless doing something you hate just for the sake of earning some money, work will take up the largest proportion of anything we do so its important to decide what you want and then go for it. So definately hold out for something you want
I feel for you, I am off work with depression, and I have to say that looking at some of the Q and A on here keep me sane, however back to your question.
You already know that a job with no stimulation does nothing for you, so in that case dont apply for them.
What are your interests?
What about a job that includes them, or why not a p/t job and retrain for something that you would enjoy.
You dont have to work, 8hrs a day 5 days a week, there are shifts, and nights and also weekends, or take 2 p/t where you can do a different job in each
Get a bit of variety and get to know your collegues
GOOD LUCK
Ive been there. Think about a career you would like to do. Get some form of qualification or training, this will ensure you’ve made the right choice and then look for a job. Get support off your doctor/job centre and they will support you. Good Luck!
What do you love to do? Do what you love and you will never work again. If you do not know, keep looking. You already know what you dislike, so don’t go there anymore. Do not do anything that makes you feel depressed, surely. I wish you well. Terry.
If you can see nothing to become happy and contented with your present job go and find another job that you’ll like more. Assess yourself, it is the job that you hate most or the environment or the people around you at work. Think of positive thing why you are in this job if the thing really get worst. . . quit.
