To be completely honest, there is no one-way-fits-all way to cope with anxiety – unfortunately you just need to try lots of things until you find what works for you.
a good starting place is to work out exactly what causes your panic attack. is it a particular person, place, situation, fear etc? sometimes its simplest just to avoid those situations. but i know thats not always possible.
i find that little things help me. i always carry a bottle of water with me, and a packet of mints,so that they can help me if i start to feel faint and panicky. i like to plan everything in advance so that i know, as far as possible, whats going to happen.
i am also on anti-depressants because i also suffer from depression, and these can help too.
im afraid there is no easy answer. you could try chatting to your GP, or see if there is a local counselling service you could use?
good luck!
St Johns wort, and oil of evening primrose oil. I take them every day and it keeps all my anxiety at bay and i havent had a panic attack for a year or two now.
I really cant reccomend St johns wort enough.
I just had the worst panic attack of my life last monday, went to the ER to thought i was having a heart attack and dieing. They did a EKG, blood work, and took blood pressure and everything was normal, expect blood pressure was a little high from the attack. The doc prescribed me Xanax and told me to take one when i start feeling anxious or attack coming on. So far so good.
i suffered from anxiety and panic for a couple of years, but i’ve managed to pull through my problems
there is a lot you can do to help yourself with anxiety, i wrote all about it in a big post you can take a look at here if you like: http://www.anxietyforum.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4087
i hope it helps and that you’re starting to feel better soon xx
If i feel a panic attack coming on i will drink some water, sit down and wash my hand. Washing my hands may sound weird but it is a soothing and convenient to "wash" away my stress.
Antidepressants were the only thing that worked for me.
Citalopram.
I had it! It was a feeling i never experienced before.
I was alone in the mountains and lost.
Even though it was day time i would of had a even bigger panic if it was nigh time.
Advice: Drink lots of water.
Think about something good that can happen for that experienced
Exhale inhale, Relax you body, get your hear rate to go to normal speed.
Think about what you will do next…like you already overcame the Event.
and if your religious, ask for god’s help during that time.
It works
I have OCD and my life is nothing but anxiety ridden 24-7. Medication doesn’t work for me. I pretty much just have to deal with it. But it does help many people. Are you on any medications?
It sounds silly but I have a few items of clothing that act as a comfort when I’m feeling anxious or panicky. My arm warmers are life savers! I wear them when ever I know I’m going to be in a situation where I know I’m not going to feel comfortable or where I’m going to be around a lot of people (I have issues with busy places and personal space)
I used to be on medication but through the use of these little things I manage to control my feelings and worries myself. I’m sure a psychologist would have a field day with me but the way I look at it if it’s working and keeping my mind at bay then that’s all that matters. Comforters work for children so why not me as well hehe
Honestly, I used to think that I would die, whilst struggling for a breath in the supermarket queue.. A sneaky move was to make sure that I wasn’t squashed up, next to the person in front, and whilst waiting, I used to let my mind wander off and think of silly things, such as "does that wee wifie two rows down actually need five loaves and a pack of ten Duracell batterries?" Jings, what will she be shoving those batterries in?? Maybe she has a secret sex-toy fetish, perhaps her kiddies need them for thier hi-tech toys, oh, It’s my turn!! Panic averted. If you get all wound up in the queue, look around you and imagine what other folk might be doing with thier shopping. In fact, why don’t you imagine what people are thinking about your basket!!!
Citalopram, it cured my panic illness (PTSD) and depression.
I have the, Usually they are small so i just try to leave class or get myself out of the situation im in. Then, i put on some music and just try to talk myself out of my fears (it sounds crazy but it helps) And if i feel like the walla are closing in i try to get outside. Also if i’m really bad i tell somebody and they usually try to help me and talk me through it
i had one this morning actually. i just let myself calm down. i’ll close my eyes and just concentrate on calming down. usually i just let it run it’s course and hide it from the people around me. they happen and i just wait for it to be done so i can get on with what i’m doing.
honestly, taking a drug like xanax or anything like that isn’t necessary. you just need to learn how to relax yourself. doctors precribe drugs way too much now a days.
