So many people breathe thru only the upper part of their lungs, and this makes panic and anxiety worse. To see for yourself, lie flat on your back on your bed and place one hand on your tummy. As you breathe, note if your tummy rises and falls with each breath. If it does NOT rise and fall with each breath, then you are not breathing thru the bottom of your lungs, which is incorrect.

Train yourself to breathe so that your hand rises and falls with each breath. As you practice this, over and over, you will be learning correct breathing, which will be beneficial to your entire body. It will also help to stop the panic attacks.

You need to practice this all the time, until it becomes automatic. You can even practice doing this while riding in a car, sitting at a desk, or whatever. Best wishes to you, my dear.

Doctors are professionals. They know the symptoms of bipolar. They know what to look for. So if you go see one, they are not going to assume you are just looking for pills. They'll analyze you and diagnose you. Most will end up referring you to a specialist, which is even better. Then just do whatever they tell you to do, to the letter.

Bipolar is a disease, just like cancer is a disease. It is not curable, but if you want to control the symptoms, you need to get to a doctor pronto. There is no other reasonable solution to your problem.

Good luck!

Bi-Polar is not something simple that will go away. If this is truly what you have been diagnosed with then you must get expect care. After you go to the doctor he will refer you on to a psychiatrist. The medicines they prescribe will make your life so much better. Please don't try to keep on going without help. (-:
- And if you don't have a rapport with the the psych - find another one.

View sections 6, (page N first) 8, (COMPREHENSIVE POST first) 9, (COMPREHENSIVE POST first) and 10, (page O first) at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on anxiety, panic attacks, social phobia, and bipolar disorder, respectively. Try the weblinks in section 42, about stress, on page i.

Contact your county/local mental health agency, and find out what help they can offer. Psychological counselling, with a sliding scale, based on income, is available through many religious organisations, such as Catholic counselling, the Methodist church, the Unitarian Universalists, and sometimes the United Way.

You don't have to be a member. (U.S.A.) Google: "clinics; mhmr; (your city); (your state)" I have been variously informed that the phone numbers 211, and 411, are appropriate.

Many bipolars require mood stabilisers, and some need antipsychotics, as well. There are a lucky few who can cope, using the supplements, herbs, & vitamins. Doctors and psychiatrists understand the requirement for medications.
