Are these panic attacks a sign of something worse?
I have an anxiety disorder in which i take citalopram and budeprion daily. I also take diazepam when i have panic attacks. I used to have panic attacks several times a month but since i have been taking this medicine it has cut down a lot. Now they rarely come… except for that last few weeks. I have experienced a rise in panic attacks lately and am concerned. So please answer this question if you know the answer…. can excessive panic attacks be a sign of something worse. Or am i just giving myself more anxiety by thinking like this?

The only thing that could happen is you could develop a panic disorder, or your heightened state of panic can cause you to have depression. Trust me, been there, done that.
I just want to say congratulations for being strong enough to seek a doctor to get help. I too am on citalopram but that is for depression, and I plan on getting off of it soon. There is no shame in taking medication but I want you to know that just taking medication wont permanently fix the problem. More and more professionals are suggesting behavioural cognitive therapy. I used to have panic attacks on a daily basis when I was 17. My parents ordered me the Attacking Anxiety & Depression program from http://www.stresscenter.com and I am cured now!
Hi– A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that develops for no apparent reason and that triggers severe physical reactions. Panic attacks can be very frightening. When panic attacks occur, you might think you’re losing control, having a heart attack or even dying.
You may have only one or two panic attacks in your lifetime. But if you have panic attacks frequently, it could mean that you have panic disorder, a type of chronic anxiety disorder.
(:
It could be that maybe somehow your body is getting used to the medicine so maybe your dr. might prescribe you with something else. That and just by thinking about it so much can cause you to get more panic attacks.
is normal, u need to go out and mix with humans more. nerds..~_~"
Panic attacks are usually you making you get them if that makes sense like in your head your giving yourself more anxiety.
No, I had them but started taking calcuim & eating small meals throughout the day & just improved my health & I feel great right now.
BOTH!!! quit thinking about it.
also if your body has adapted to the medicine it will need a higher dose. ask you docotor!!!
You might be becoming tolerant to your meds. You have an anxiety disorder, it’s normal. Go see your doc so he/she can adjust your meds.
You are giving yourself more anxiety. The only thing that really affects panic attacks is low blood sugar. Sometimes the chemicals in our brains change for unknown reasons. Since i was 11 years old it has been up and down (good month, bad month, etc) Its normal. Just know and believe that there is nothing more serious going on. Panic attacks also give us irrational thoughts. I sometimes get convinced that i have a brain tumor and the attack gets much worse. Just say to yourself "This is normal, its happened before, and it will be gone. NOTHING is wrong with me".So the fluxuations are normal. Just relax.
have you talked to your dr.?when I was suffering panic attacks a few years back I to tofinil then went on plavix.have been off all meds (knock on wood) for about 6 years now.I did have panic attacks at least once a week .Haven’t had one since.Wish you the best of luck though they are hell to live with
Yes panic attacks can be a sign of something worse, but the more you stress over that thought the more your anxiety persist most likely from reading your paragraph your very unsure of whats going so now your jumping to conclusions so I say don’t worry about it & just calm down but panic attacks can be a sign of something worse like Schizophrenia, Severe Depression, Bi-polar disorder, Borderline personality disorder, much much more & panic attacks can be a sign of something very mild & very curable
I suffered with this problem for years and medication did not cure the problem. However i cured myself,i read as much info as i could find and discovered that it was psycholigical,i started to learn meditation and deep breathing exercises and talked with friends about it.controlled breathing was a great help.I am now cured and havent had an attack for as long as i can remember.I hope this will welp you.regards.

Panic attacks are characterized by unexpected and repeated episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, or abdominal distress.
Whilst drug therapy is valid for most medical conditions, when used as a treatment for anxiety conditions, like panic attacks, it couldn’t be more misplaced.
